Heaven forbid two people love one another!
I was raised Catholic. I was told that Jesus was about love and that he preached that he loved everyone the same-even the leper. I also read the Old Testament and believe that those feelings were the way of the old world before Jesus--darkness, terror, mistrust. So, if Jesus and the New Testament are love, and if he brought the light of love into the world, and if he loved everyone equally, why is there so much hate? (By the way, many religions are based love.)
I am so fortunate to have many, many friends, from just about every persuasion you can imagine. Life is so fun with all of these people in my life and I can't imagine life without them. I've learned tolerance, patience, skills. We've had fun, laughed and cried.
I also believe in a separation of Church and State and I believe that marriage is a sacred ceremony between two people and their God. So, how in the heck did we let the legislature get involved in a religious ceremony in the first place? (The real reason is that Partisan Politics invented the Gay Marriage issue to divide us loving people (the light), and interject hate and discrimination (darkness). Notice that Congress has failed to pass any legislation because it is, on its face, hate legislation and discrimination and the Supreme Court probably would not uphold an issue that is purely biased, or prejudicial, or a hate crime on its face.)
People always quote me as saying, "She's in favor of gay marriage." I've never said that! What I have said is, "I think the legislature needs to get out of the marriage business, period!" The government has made marriage a big business and they have made divorce an even bigger one. So, please stop misquoting me.
People ask me-
What about the children? We can still have laws that protect children without laws on marriage. We already have these. Look at how many single parents we have out there. State Family Courts
What about my belongings? You have the right to have a will so you can leave your belongings to whomever you wish when you die. You also have the right to go to court about property should you and your partner split. State Probate Courts/State Family Courts
What about health-care benefits? Your state or employer has the right to provide you with health care as an individual. It shouldn't have to depend upon whether you are married or not, or what your sexual orientation is. So, health care essentially becomes a non-issue.
What about my Social Security Benefits? This is the only issue that would have to be legislated, perhaps at the Federal level. The current law provides benefits for spouses, and dependent children.
I will never discriminate against anyone. My job is to be a representative OF the people-all of you! And, I will never vote to get rid of YOUR religion. That is your Constitutional right. Taking away rights is a slippery slope and in the end who would be there to save your religion and rights from vanishing? Remember the poem that ends ". . . and then they came for me?"
Ask yourself, do I really want MORE government in my life, especially at the Federal level? I believe as our founding fathers did, and as the Constitution recommends, in State and individual rights and I really love our Township, and local Governments. Thomas Jefferson proposed smaller government to keep the power closely guarded and watched by the people.
